About Organisation:
Vi Agroforestry is a Swedish development organisation fighting poverty and climate change together. The organisation supports smallholder farmer families to lift themselves out of poverty through sustainable agriculture land management (SALM) based on agroforestry. What started as a tree planting initiative in 1983, is today an expert organisation implementing development projects through local partnerships with member-based farmer organisations.
The aim is to reduce poverty, hunger, deforestation, harmful gendered norms, and contribute to increased mitigation, resilience and adaptation to climate change, increased biodiversity and sustainable food systems. Current projects and programmes target smallholder farmer families – especially women, youth and children – in Kenya, Uganda and Uganda. The head office in Stockholm, Sweden focuses on fundraising, advocacy, and programme monitoring and evaluation. The regional office in Nairobi, Kenya coordinates operations, advocacy and expertise. Projects and partnerships are managed by country offices in each country.
Job Summary: The position is responsible for ensuring that the passengers are driven safely and comfortably to the approved destinations. The driver should always make sure that the vehicle is maintained in an optimal working condition. The role works under supervision of Finance and Administration Manager.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promote and support the interest of Vi Agroforestry.
- Be committed to and contribute to the fulfillment of the Vi Agroforestry Strategy.
- Ensure and promote rights-based approach in all that we do.
- Ensure adherence to Vi Agroforestry policies, guidelines, operating procedures and workplans.
- Ensure compliance to donor requirements.
- Ensure high quality in all that we do.
- Be committed to fight corruption and fraud and always report when there is any kind of suspicion.
- Ensure that gender is mainstreamed, and Gender Transformation is promoted in all our operations.
- Keep abreast with the development in your area of responsibility.
- Liaise with partmer organisations, researchers, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Contribute to effective cooperation between staff in the global organization.
- Contribute to a healthy work environment at the workplace.
- Support teamwork and assist each other as needs anse.
- Upon request from the manager fulfil other tasks at the country office/regional office or department level.
- Keep your manager updated on opportunities and challenges as well as on the progress on your assignments. Make sure you inform your manager well in advance if you have difficulties to meet your deadlines.
- Contribute to development and implementation of risk management plans, workplans and budgets for the office.
- Ensure driving regulations and safety measures always adhered to.
- Provide various driving and messenger services.
- Provide transportation services to all levels of staff members and visitors.
- Ensure that vehicles are maintained in a clean and roadworthy condition prior to and after use.
- Maintains records for vehicles, logs official trips, records daily mileage, fuel cards and receipts.
- Ensures that the assigned vehicle is compliant with the vehicle and transport guideline.
- Ensure availability of all required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, registration, logs, first aid kit and necessary spare parts.
- Make sure that the vehicle is serviced regularly as stipulated in the vehicle and transport guideline.
- Report any defects, faults or problems encountered to the mechanic and follow up remedial action.
- Timely submit monthly record of vehicle mileage as per vehicle report template to the Finance Manager.
- Always observe occupational safety and health measures.
- Provide first aid in case of emergencies.
- Photocopying, sorting and filling all relevant documents.
- Pick up, sign for and distribute all mails and packages received.
- Occasionally coordinate and supervise work by service providers.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Secondary education.
- Tertiary education is an added advantage.
- Holder of up-to-date driving license.
Other professional qualifications:
- Knowledgeable on safety and security.
- Good knowledge of first Aid.
- Good customer service and communication skills are essential.
- Basic administration/IT skills (data entry, internet research, email and scheduling software).
- Must have an impeccable driving record.
- Must be flexible with working hours (occasion shift working).
- Must be a good team worker.
- Knowledge of Kampala and Uganda in general.
- Good knowledge of defensive and safe driving.
- A level qualification with Level II of Automative Mechanics and a Certificate in any of the following areas will be an added advantage: Mechanical Engineering, Procurement and Logistics Management, Human Resources Management or Counseling/Psychology.
Work experience:
- At least 5 years’ experience in driving at INGOs.
