Welthungerhilfe (WHH), founded in 1962, is one of Germany’s largest non-governmental aid and development agencies. We have worked in Uganda since 1986, in partnership with the Government of Uganda, national and local NGOs, jointly improving the livelihoods of the most vulnerable population in rural areas through interventions that increase their Food and Nutrition Security, improve sustainable access to WASH services, innovative youth skilling and women’s empowerment programs in five regions of Uganda.
Job Summary: The position aims to ensure smooth and responsible handling of the petty cash.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties with own area of responsibility
- Ensure the cash management by being responsible for the cashboxes: guarantee that the money is disbursed and/or the advances given according to the rules, and from the right cashboxes and allocated on the relevant project(s)
- Regular cash reconciliation (ensuring that physical cash balances are matching cashbook records)
- Follow up on the advances given.
- Inform regularly if there are enough funds in the cash boxes for all projects.
- Guarantee that the exchange of currency is done properly and from a reliable change office.
- Check the vouchers and the relevant supportive documents (quality, authenticity, reliability, accuracy, and fairness)
- Participate, if needed, in the manor payments which have to be done in the field.
- Collect the relevant supportive documents regarding the expenses /purchases/payments done in the field.
- Daily register of vouchers in the accounting software and prepare vouchers for booking.
- Ensure due payments for all items and services (after approval) and advances.
- Guarantee the respect of Welthungerhilfe’s financial guidelines and procedures.
Duties without own area of responsibility
- Where applicable, contribute to preparing the audits, internally or with partners.
- Ensure the correct filing of all the financial and administrative documents.
- Translate, if necessary, administrative, and financial documents (invoices, cost estimations, official statements, bank statements, law texts, labor contract, internal procedures, internal key documents, etc.)
- Scan and copy the key financial and administrative documents.
- Fulfillment of any other related tasks which are assigned by the management and correspond in general with the character of this position.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Cashier position must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. An equivalent, from an accredited institution, is essential.
- Membership of or studentship towards professional bodies such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA and any similar bodies will be an added advantage.
- At least 1-3 years professional experience in a similar position, preferably with international NGOs.
- Excellent Organization skills, self-motivated, proactive, and able to accomplish set deadlines.
- Expressive, Good learner, Good analytical and reporting skills
- Ability to work under minimum supervision. Flexible, patient, and ability to cope with high workload.
- Demonstrate team spirit & high integrity. Able to work in a multi-cultural environment.
- A good command of both spoken and written English is necessary.
- The position holder should work in a client and team oriented manner and adhere to standards as described in the “WHH/GAA Code of Conduct
