About the team:
UBL operates within a multi-cultural, multinational, multi-currency environment and is a member of Diageo PLC. It is a Fast-Moving consumer Goods Company (FMCG) and categorized into Demand and Supply. The quality analyst role works with in the Supply business that is involved in production of beer and spirits. The Quality Department is responsible for developing and monitoring systems to control the quality of beer and spirits as well as protecting the environment from harmful effluent. The main aim being to achieve a standard product that meets and exceeds customer expectations while keeping the environment safe. This role works closely with brewing, spirits and packaging shift leadership and the Quality Manager.
Financial: This role works with a shared budget in the quality department of UGX 1Billion per year and takes care of Lab equipment that are critical in beer analysis worth 700,000GBP.
Market Complexity: The company makes both beer and spirits and operates 24 hours. To beat competition, an effective Quality Control/Assurance system is very critical. The process involves monitoring process inputs (Local raw materials) process control and finished product. To remain at the top in the market and satisfy the expectations and needs of the consumer at competitive cost, requires highly skilled and trained quality analysts.
Leadership Responsibilities: This position works within the Quality Team and has responsibility of influencing shift managers and operators and to respond timely to decisions that guarantee quality of the products.
Purpose of Role:
Role ensures that the beer produced in a brewery is of exceptional quality. Works with the primary goals of improving brewery operations, improving product quality, improving customer satisfaction levels, reducing costs (e.g. reworks) and also helps to ensure that food safety standards are adhered to and maintained.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adherence to analytical sampling plans ensuring 100% coverage.
- Production of timely, accurate, reliable results and reports, and ensure closure of process none conformances by engaging relevant stake holders.
- Ensure analytical lab performance KPIs are met.
- Generate statistical process control charts, monitor and advise any process deviations to ensure product consistence.
- Validate the performance of measuring systems critical to quality with in the process to ensure product safety and meet regulatory requirements
- Ensure sensory evaluation is conducted for in process and finished product to guarantee product quality. Where applicable, managing sensory tests in the spirits plant.
- Participate in Best Practices as prescribed by MANEX team
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A holder of BSc preferably in food science and technology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Industrial Chemistry or microbiology.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 – 3 years relevant work experience.
- Knowledge of Quality, Safety and Environmental Management systems.
- Working Knowledge in Microbiology/ hygiene, Brewing and Packaging process.
