Kyaninga Child Development Centre (KCDC) is a not-for-profit organisation that has revolutionised the care and promoted the rights of children with disabilities (CwDs) in Uganda over the past ten years by implementing a multisectoral, holistic approach that includes healthcare, rehabilitation, education and social inclusion.
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced International Finance Volunteer to support the professional development of our Ugandan finance team. The selected candidate will be crucial in providing training and mentorship to enhance the team’s financial management capabilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Financial Transaction Management: Train and assist the finance team in accurately recording and processing all financial transactions, including receipts, payments, and bank deposits.
- Cash and Requisition Management: Effective cash and requisition management willi play a pivotal role in bolstering KCDC’s financial health. This involves supporting the finance team in monitoring cash flow, overseeing petty cash, streamlining requisitions, and enhancing cash handling procedures to ensure transparency, accountability, and optimal resource utilisation.
- Financial Reporting: Guide the team in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Accounting Software: Provide training on maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records using accounting software, ensuring that all data is properly input and maintained.
- Bank Reconciliation: Mentor the team in reconciling bank statements and other financial accounts on a monthly basis to ensure accurate records.
- Budgeting and Variance Tracking: Assist in developing and monitoring budgets while training staff to track variances between the budgeted figures and actuals, providing insights for better financial management.
- Compliance and Standards: Ensure the finance team understands and adheres to relevant non-profit accounting standards and local regulations, guiding on compliance Issues.
- Donor and Grant Management: Help maintain accurate donor records, track grant funding, and prepare grant financial reports, ensuring proper use and reporting of funds.
- Audit Preparation: Support the finance team in preparing for the annual audit process, ensuring all financial documents and records are organised and audit-ready.
- Capacity Building: Mentor and train the finance team, fostering long-term skills development in financial management, reporting, and compliance.
- Effective Communication: Assist the finance team in improving communication with staff and management on financial matters, ensuring that financial information is clearly conveyed and understood.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- Professional accounting qualifications (e.g., CPA, ACCA) are preferred.
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and financial reporting standards.
- Excellent training, mentoring, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in cross-cultural settings and adapt to new environments.
- Minimum of 5 years of finance experience. A focus on non-profit financial management is highly desirable.
- Experience working in a developing country or with international teams is highly desirable.
