Our client is a Manufacturing Company based in Mukono, Uganda with a large focus on premium edible oils and soap manufacturing, production and distribution. On behalf of our client we are looking for a competent and experienced Senior Executive–Tax and Compliance to be based in Mukono, Uganda.
Reports To: The General Manager with dotted line to Group Internal Auditor
Duty Station: Mukono, Uganda
Job Summary: This role involves preparing tax payments schedules and managing the tax account. The role also involves preparing necessary working papers in support of tax payments and returns, investigating losses and making determination as to the occurrence and corrective action, carrying out audits as per audit plan designated by the Group Internal Audit Department and ensuring timely identification of variances to budget to be able to drive the correct behaviors to achieve financial objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare tax payments schedules and manage the tax account.
- Prepare tax returns schedules.
- Complete quarterly and annual tax reports.
- Organize and update the company’s tax database.
- Prepare necessary working papers in support of tax payments and returns.
- Scrutinize accounting data that has an impact on tax position.
- Review tax systems data registry for prompt resolution of tax related issues.
- Keep abreast with changes in tax laws and regulations in Uganda, assessing their impact on the company and advising management on necessary adjustments to ensure compliance.
- Respond to all queries associated with tax submissions.
- Analyze all transactions and recommend alternatives to some and provide efficient response to all tax inquiries and provide required certificates.
- Tax planning and stakeholder engagement by championing the company’s tax tribunal matters with the tax authority.
- Investigate losses and make determination as to the occurrence and corrective action.
- Review business operating procedures and identify key controls for onward implementation and monitoring.
- Support the internal audit function in Identifying and addressing areas of non-compliance to standard SOPs or business best practices.
- Carry out audits as per audit plan designated by the Group Internal Audit Department.
- Follow up on recommendations made to address audit related concerns by both the Group Internal audit department and external auditors.
- Compiling Audit findings and following up with HOD and Management for closure.
- Participate in the budgeting process by providing inputs from different cost centres.
- Ensure timely identification of variances to budget to be able to drive the correct behaviors to achieve financial objectives.
- Scrutinize all payment for budget conformity and Compliance with budget process
- Provide advice in the preparation of monthly management accounts.
- Take part in managing and implementation of finance related projects in the Business.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance or accounting or a related field and MUST have completed CPA or ACCA.
- Understanding of tax software and accounting systems.
- At least 5-6 years post qualification experience as a Senior Executive–Tax and Compliance or a similar role.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex tax legislation and apply it to practical scenarios.
- Ability to prepare and file accurate tax returns, ensuring compliance with deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to monitor regulatory changes and ensure adherence.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems and accounting software.
- Strong technical skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
Barriers to Success in Role
- Limited or lack of technical knowledge of tax software and accounting systems.
- Inability to accurately prepare tax-related documents and reports and business acumen.
