About Organisation:
Uganda Manufacturers’ Association (UMA), is an industry-association in Uganda, that aims to bring together Ugandan industrialists and manufacturers in an attempt to guide the industrial actors in the country towards global competitiveness, on a sustainable basis. The association advises the government of Uganda in the formulation of national and regional industrial policy. UMA also serves as a collective lobby and mouthpiece for its members.
Job Summary: To review, analyse, update, and write important policies that address member concerns and UMA’s strategic priorities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct extensive research on a range of trade, manufacturing, economic, legal and tax issues that inform the development of policy and UMA strategic priorities.
- Draft relevant policy documents while ensuring clarity, coherence, specificity, and alignment with other organisational or government policies and regulations.
- Monitor and analyse policy trends in both domestic and international environments that may impact trade and manufacturing in Uganda and the East African Region.
- Identify emerging trends and make recommendations that inform policy decisions or adapt existing policies to suit changing circumstances.
- With guidance from the policy manager, develop evidence-based research across a broad range of trade, manufacturing and economic areas, that align with strategic priorities.
- Share information and knowledge regarding policies through a range of communication channels, including briefs, reports, and presentations at seminars, workshops, or conferences that encourage interaction and input.
- Collect feedback on potential policy benefits, concerns, consequences and improvement areas from UMA membership through sector meetings, focus groups, surveys, or interviews etc.
- Documenting research findings, policy recommendations, and outlining strategies.
- Maintain and update database management systems that contain policy information, research and statistics and use them to analyse, clean and interpret data to inform and reinforce evidence-based policies.
- Develop, edit and regularly update policy content on the UMA website and other online and social media platforms.
- Develop briefings, speeches and comments for UMA’s representatives on policy matters for key meetings, events, and media opportunities
- Organise meetings and events that build UMA’s reputation
- Perform any other duties as and when assigned to do so.
