Job Summary
The Accountant will support the finance team by ensuring timely transaction postings in the finance system in line with GAAP standards, performing bank and mobile money reconciliations, and preparing monthly budget variance reports according to approved advance requests.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and develop monthly financial reports, including system postings, bank reconciliations, journal entries, personal advances, payment vouchers, and petty cash journals.
- Ensure all expenses comply with U.S. government regulations and MJAP policies.
- Provide financial technical assistance and monitor budgets.
- Contribute to organizational budget development and financial reporting.
- Manage the decision support system to aid top management in improving business performance.
- Maintain budgets and optimize expenses for the LPHS-EC Project.
- Prepare monthly budget variance reports for the Senior Management Team (SMT).
- Evaluate and improve operations and financial performance systems.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations for bank accounts and mobile money.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closures.
- Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable monthly.
- Ensure all payment vouchers are approved before processing payments.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- Professional Qualification: CPA or ACCA certification is required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-4 years of accounting experience in a USAID-funded organization.
- Familiarity with USAID regulations is preferred.
- Experience managing U.S. government funds.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in accounting software systems (e.g., Sun Systems).
- Strong skills in accounting, financial management, and budget monitoring.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of financial safeguarding, anti-fraud measures, and risk management.
