Job Summary

The Market & Credit Risk Officer will proactively identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor credit and market risks that could impact the bank’s operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Risk Assessments:
    • Compute and analyze credit risk parameters and prepare daily credit risk dashboard reports.
    • Compile monthly credit risk assessment reports.
    • Support the preparation of Basel II capital returns per the Bank of Uganda’s Basel II guidelines.
    • Review and submit IFRS9 provisions and BOU loan loss provisions reports.
    • Conduct monthly and quarterly market, liquidity, and credit stress tests.
    • Provide weekly class movement analysis and monitor portfolio migration trends.
    • Develop weekly loan recovery reports for loans in the Doubtful & Loss categories.
    • Maintain and submit quarterly risk registers for the Business Growth team.
    • Conduct targeted assessments on loans in arrears and prepare review reports.
    • Review loan files for Management Credit Committee approval.
    • Analyze the bank’s financial exposure and liquidity risks to identify vulnerabilities.
  2. Recommendations and Monitoring:
    • Provide actionable recommendations to enhance liquidity position and financial stability.
    • Coordinate Business Resumption Site tests to ensure preparedness for unforeseen events.
    • Conduct independent risk reviews and spot checks at branches and Head Office.
  3. Training and Awareness:
    • Deliver risk awareness programs to foster a strong risk culture and accountability within the bank.
  4. Governance and Compliance:
    • Monitor credit operational activities for adherence to policies and guidelines.
    • Analyze audit findings and assist with the implementation of recommendations.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience:
    • 2–5 years in a Supervised Financial Institution (SFI), with at least 2 years in Credit operations.
  • Skills and Knowledge:
    • Risk management expertise with the ability to identify and assess risks.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Proficiency in reporting and the ability to convey technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Familiarity with industry trends and regulations.
    • Self-driven, proactive, and able to work with integrity and confidentiality.
