The IRC leads the four-year PROSPECT SRHR project, funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands, to improve maternal health, reduce teenage pregnancies, and tackle sexual and gender-based violence in the West Nile region.
Job Overview
The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Officer will oversee the design, coordination, and implementation of maternal and child health programs in health facilities and communities. Working closely with district health teams and program staff, the officer will address critical health needs for pregnant women, mothers, and children, ensuring quality and culturally appropriate healthcare delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and monitor maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) interventions, including reproductive health (RH), family planning (FP), and HIV services.
- Identify and address barriers to healthcare access, developing innovative strategies to promote service uptake.
- Mentor healthcare providers in program-supported facilities to enhance MNCH and RH/FP/HIV services.
- Collaborate with community teams to create demand for health services and organize integrated outreaches.
- Develop outreach plans tailored for adolescent mothers to improve access to healthcare services.
- Monitor program results and document progress for internal and donor reporting.
- Provide technical support for the operationalization of national health policies in target districts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Clinical Medicine, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in reproductive health, family planning, and HIV service delivery.
- Proven expertise in training, mentorship, and public health program management.
- Proficiency in designing and implementing healthcare interventions.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong interpersonal and community mobilization skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in dynamic team settings.
- Familiarity with Uganda’s healthcare systems and cultural contexts.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Fluency in English and knowledge of local languages.
