The Regional Service Centre in Entebbe (RSCE) was established in 2010 to provide efficient, client-focused administrative services to UN client entities. The Centre supports areas such as human resources, finance, logistics, and ICT services, aiming to streamline operations for enhanced mission effectiveness.
Job Summary
The Air Operations Officer will ensure safe, efficient, and effective aviation operations aligned with UN policies and international standards. Reporting to the Chief of FSDH, the role involves managing air operations, coordinating missions, and overseeing compliance with aviation regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor compliance with UN aviation policies, standards, and procedures.
- Approve air mission requests and assign suitable air assets.
- Review operational flight requests and coordinate daily Air Tasking Orders (ATOs).
- Develop and implement aviation Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Oversee routine and special flights, including VIP and medical evacuation missions.
- Coordinate diplomatic clearances, ground handling, and logistics for air crews.
- Liaise with international organizations and UN units on aviation matters.
- Prepare operational plans, performance reports, and budget inputs.
- Act as Chief Air Mode Unit in their absence.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Training and certification in Air Transportation, as a Commercial Pilot, Flight Operations Officer/Dispatcher, or an equivalent military qualification are required.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CSCP, SCOR-P, Lean Six Sigma, PMP, PRINCE2) are desirable.
- Training in aviation safety or quality management is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in air transport operations, with 3 years in a supervisory role in an international setting.
- (Reduced to 5 years for candidates with a university degree).
- Experience in aviation safety and quality management is desirable.
- Familiarity with ICAO standards and aviation operations in peacekeeping or similar environments is advantageous.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools like Power BI is required.
Languages
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of French or another UN official language is desirable.
