Job Summary

World Vision Uganda is seeking two Nutrition Officers to provide technical support in implementing Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programs (TSFP) and Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition (MCHN) at different health facilities. The role involves collaboration with community health teams and local volunteers to support nutrition interventions that enhance child and maternal health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Implementation

  • Provide technical support in delivering TSFP and MCHN in alignment with Uganda’s Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) guidelines.
  • Support Nutrition Assistants with anthropometric assessments and food distribution for malnourished individuals.
  • Coordinate with community volunteers to identify and address cases of malnutrition at the community level.
  • Organize and lead mass screenings in collaboration with stakeholders.

Capacity Building and Training

  • Train community volunteers and community structures on nutrition practices.
  • Develop and adopt training curricula for community-based structures.
  • Mentor and coach Nutrition Assistants and VHTs, fostering professional development opportunities.

Project Monitoring, Reporting, and Evaluation

  • Conduct regular site visits and verify project documentation, ensuring accurate records of services provided.
  • Submit project reports (weekly, monthly, or quarterly) to stakeholders, including achievements and challenges.
  • Maintain a client database for TSFP and MCHN programs and document success stories.

Staff Management

  • Assess performance and provide feedback to Nutrition Assistants.
  • Collaborate with the Nutrition Project Coordinator to organize necessary training.
  • Foster a positive work environment and ensure team adherence to World Vision’s safeguarding policies.

Partnership and Networking

  • Build partnerships with stakeholders, including district health offices, to ensure project alignment with Ministry of Health guidelines.
  • Represent World Vision Uganda in key donor and technical working group engagements.
  • Coordinate with partners for appropriate client referrals and support.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Nutrition, Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science, or a related field. A Master’s Degree is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in community-based nutrition programs following IMAM guidelines.
  • Experience with TSFP and Maternal and Child Health Nutrition Programs.
  • Proficiency in project cycle management and knowledge of WFP and donor guidelines.
  • Expertise in nutrition project planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Strong skills in budget development and financial management.
  • Experience in delivering training and mentoring staff.

Language Skills:

  • English language proficiency is required, with a professional license as an added advantage.
