Job Summary

The Engineer – API & Application Development will be responsible for developing and implementing application and API services following MTN’s architectural standards. This role involves creating and supporting solutions that meet both business and customer needs, extending API services, and ensuring data distribution and system integration.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the development of applications and API services aligned with MTN’s architectural principles.
• Collaborate with Digital Platforms & Delivery teams to design, develop, and test new solutions.
• Lead automated deployment for applications and API services.
• Ensure API services are integrated effectively within MTN’s infrastructure and with back-end systems.
• Utilize approved tools for application and API development, meeting legal and security standards.
• Integrate API services with existing and new MTN technologies.
• Conduct research to propose and implement innovative trends in application development.
• Maintain in-house platforms and support the service architecture at MTN Uganda.
• Ensure developed solutions meet business KPIs and performance targets.

Qualifications and Skills

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical/Telecom Engineering.
• Relevant certifications in programming, microservices architecture, UNIX/Solaris/Linux, and database administration are advantageous.

Experience:

• 2 years’ experience in software development, especially in integration technologies.
• Experience in API and application design, development, and lifecycle management.
• Exposure to diverse work cultures.

Core Skills:

• Strong programming skills and knowledge of microservices architecture.
• Proficiency in UNIX/Solaris/Linux and database administration.
• Analytical thinking, communication, and conflict management.
• Flexibility and adaptability in changing environments.
• Quality and risk management skills.
