About the Project:
WasteAid has launched a two-year, UK Government-funded project in Uganda, focusing on diverting second-hand textile waste from landfills back into the local economy. In partnership with MTAC and the Uganda Tailors Association, the project will establish a Textile Reuse Hub where tailors will be trained in innovative design techniques to repurpose these materials.
Job Summary:
The Project and Finance Officer (PFO) will support the Project Manager in ensuring compliance with UK Government donor guidelines among local partners. This role involves training partners on finance and compliance, reviewing expenditure reports, and aiding in the documentation of project impacts. The PFO will work closely with partners, helping them improve reporting and capture the stories of change resulting from the project.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial:
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to train partners on UK Government compliance rules.
- Spend 2-3 days a week with local partners, providing hands-on support to enhance their understanding of compliance processes.
- Assist in the compilation of quarterly finance reports, ensuring partners submit timely and accurate financial and narrative reports.
- Aid partners in preparing project budgets and understanding monthly budget vs. actual reports.
Project Implementation:
- Support the Project Manager in planning and executing project activities in line with the annual project plan.
- Monitor partner progress against their monthly activity plans and report any issues or risks.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Lead data collection to assess the project’s impact and gather stories of change from trained tailors.
Administrative Support:
- Familiarize yourself with donor rules and ensure compliance.
- Assist in the preparation of project-related documents, including reports, proposals, and presentations.
Communication:
- Gather and develop impact stories for dissemination and contribute to communication materials such as newsletters and social media posts.
- Perform any other duties as required.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Project Finance Officer role or related field, with a strong track record in ensuring donor compliance.
- Excellent writing skills adaptable for various channels and audiences.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Comfortable working flexibly in a small organization, with a hands-on approach.
- Self-directed and resilient under pressure, with strong interpersonal skills.
- Aligned with WasteAid’s values of honesty and integrity.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of international non-profits and issues related to waste management, environmental sustainability, or international development.
