The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), a statutory organization established to promote tourism in Uganda, is looking for an experienced Marketing Manager to lead the development and execution of marketing strategies. This role is critical to positioning Uganda as a top tourism destination globally and involves working closely with both government and private sector stakeholders.
Job Summary
The Marketing Manager will be responsible for overseeing the creation and implementation of Uganda’s tourism marketing strategy and managing the “Destination Uganda” brand. The ideal candidate will have the expertise to drive promotional campaigns, monitor trends, and conduct competitor analysis to enhance Uganda’s appeal as a tourism destination.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Strategy Development: Create and coordinate the implementation of Uganda’s destination marketing strategy.
- Brand Management: Oversee the “Destination Uganda” brand strategy, ensuring consistency and effectiveness.
- Campaign Management: Develop and execute advertising campaigns for domestic, regional, and international markets.
- Market Analysis: Monitor tourism trends and conduct competitor analysis; collect and analyze data to inform strategic marketing decisions.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Tourism and private sector partners, to support national tourism objectives.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s Degree: Required in Marketing, Mass Communication, Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, Tourism and Hospitality, or a related field from a reputable university.
- Master’s Degree: Preferred in Economics, Business Administration, Tourism and Hospitality, or Marketing.
Professional Certification:
- A professional marketing qualification (such as Chartered Institute of Marketing – CIM) is a plus.
Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in marketing, with at least 5 years in a senior management role in a large, reputable organization.
Key Skills:
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple marketing projects efficiently.
- Marketing Strategy and Analysis: Expertise in developing strategic marketing plans, market intelligence, and budget analysis.
- Audience Insights: Ability to analyze target markets and gather insights to inform marketing strategies.
- Budget Management: Experience in guiding marketing decisions through budgetary analysis.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Leadership: Excellent leadership skills with a proven track record of managing and motivating teams.
