Role Overview
The Accountant will play a key role in managing financial resources, supporting strategic decision-making, and contributing to Wave’s growth and operational success. This role involves maintaining financial records, managing accounts payable, ensuring tax compliance, and enforcing internal financial policies and procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable Management

  • Manage purchase orders and ensure proper approval of vendor invoices.
  • Verify all accounts payable (AP) transactions have sufficient documentation before payment.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations for top suppliers and manage supplier contracts.

Financial Accounting and Reporting

  • Accurately post supplier invoices, reimbursements, accruals, and other transactions in SAGE Intacct.
  • Reconcile ledger balances, including cash, payables aging, and fixed assets.
  • Coordinate annual statutory audits in line with reporting calendars.

Cash/Treasury Matters

  • Prepare payment runs and facilitate the internal approval process.
  • Initiate online bank payments and coordinate with cash management for reconciliation.
  • Manage banking relationships, including Forex negotiations, and ensure optimal cash levels in shilling accounts.

Tax Compliance

  • Handle tax correspondences, compute and file monthly tax returns per the Ugandan tax calendar.
  • Offer daily tax guidance to internal teams on transaction impact.

Policies and Procedures

  • Develop, review, and implement financial policies related to staff business travel, reimbursements, and cash advances.
  • Ensure adherence to internal financial controls.
  • Conduct training for Wave Uganda employees on financial policies and updates.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CPA/ACCA part qualification is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with EFRIS is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, auditing, or finance.
  • Proficiency in Word, Google Sheets/Excel, and experience in multi-entity reporting.
  • Strong financial reporting skills and attention to detail.
