Job Summary

Airtel Uganda is seeking a highly skilled Procurement Manager to oversee supplier prequalification, contract negotiations, vendor management, and procurement operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a hands-on approach, strong ethics, and the ability to thrive in a performance-driven environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prequalify suppliers through tendering or headhunting.
  • Distribute Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and evaluate submissions.
  • Award tenders to selected vendors and manage supplier relationships.
  • Prepare savings and tender reports for decision-making by relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify new suppliers and review products and services.
  • Negotiate supplier terms in alignment with Airtel’s standards and culture.
  • Sign contracts and issue Purchase Orders (POs).
  • Enforce contract clauses as applicable to different situations.
  • Evaluate suppliers on quality, quantity, and delivery metrics.
  • Conduct supplier visits to assess their capacity and production processes.
  • Provide feedback on supplier products and services, fostering ongoing relations.
  • Make recommendations to support management decisions.
  • Manage and develop the procurement team.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in procurement, such as CIPS.

Experience

  • 4–8 years of practical experience in a procurement role.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong ethics and a proactive approach to tasks.
  • Ability to operate in a performance-driven and business-focused environment.
  • Exceptional planning, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Skilled in negotiations and effective oral and written communication.
  • Good understanding of category management principles.
  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving, leadership, and management abilities.
