Job Description:

World Vision Uganda seeks a skilled Bus Driver to ensure safe, reliable, and timely transportation for staff and goods. The driver will maintain the vehicle in excellent condition, adhering to all organizational policies and legal requirements, thereby supporting World Vision’s mission and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Transportation of Staff and Goods:

  • Safely transport staff, visitors, and goods to various destinations.
  • Ensure all passengers use seat belts and follow safety protocols.
  • Assist with loading and unloading goods.

Vehicle Maintenance:

  • Conduct daily checks on vehicle essentials (oil, fuel, brakes, tires, lights).
  • Ensure regular vehicle servicing in line with World Vision Uganda’s Fleet Policy.
  • Keep the vehicle clean, inside and out.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records for vehicle usage, mileage, and fuel.
  • Complete trip reports, logbooks, and fuel records as required.
  • Report accidents, defects, or mechanical issues immediately.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Adhere to all traffic laws and organizational safety policies.
  • Ensure up-to-date vehicle documents (insurance, registration).

Support to Operations:

  • Assist with delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items.
  • Provide logistical support during field missions and events.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • High School Certificate or equivalent.
  • Formal driver training certification.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of driving experience, including 3 years with a bus (preferably for an NGO).
  • Experience with various vehicles, including 4x4s.

Technical Skills:

  • Valid driver’s license for bus class.
  • Defensive driving certification.
  • Basic vehicle mechanics knowledge and minor repair skills.
  • Proficiency with GPS and navigation tools.

Language Skills:

  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written); knowledge of local languages is advantageous.

Personal Attributes:

  • Integrity, responsibility, and punctuality.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.

Working Conditions:

  • May require long hours and travel to remote areas.
  • Exposure to diverse weather and terrain.
