Position Summary:
ABSA Bank is looking for a dedicated Agency Banker to manage and recover debt within the Post Write Off Portfolio (PWOR) and pre-charge off portfolios. This role involves interacting with Debt Collection Agencies (DCAs), legal firms, and customers to ensure efficient debt recovery while minimizing collection costs in accordance with business policies and procedures.



Key Responsibilities

  • Performance Monitoring: Track and assess the performance of DCAs and legal firms daily. Address any deviations from agreed targets immediately.
  • Daily Performance Discussions: Conduct daily discussions with DCAs and legal firms regarding their performance on secured promises to pay, settlements, arrangements, and traces.
  • Action Planning: Develop and implement action plans to address underperformance, ensuring agreed targets are met.
  • Debt Collection Solutions: Offer tailored debt collection solutions to customers, including settlements and retrenchment cover.
  • Auditing and Reporting: Identify sample accounts for daily audits and conduct at least 25 call backs to ensure compliance and effective debt recovery actions.
  • Feedback and Compliance: Compile reports of audit findings and share them with management and relevant stakeholders, ensuring all anomalies are addressed by DCAs.
  • Complaints Management: Log and address all DCA complaints, ensuring resolutions are provided within 24 hours.
  • Invoice Validation: Validate and process invoices from DCAs, ensuring they are accurate and handled within agreed SLAs.
  • Customer Queries: Respond promptly to general telephone and email requests from DCAs.
  • Performance Management: Maintain a commitment to effective performance management and adherence to rigorous controls and policies.
  • Continuous Improvement: Seek ways to enhance operational efficiency by challenging existing processes and sharing best practices with the team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Law degree or equivalent.
  • Experience: 2-3 years of legal practice, with experience in stakeholder management, LDC, and litigation.
  • Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent report writing and presentation abilities.
    • High-level negotiation skills.
    • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
