Job Overview:

The Driver will be responsible for the safe transportation of IRC staff and materials, as well as the care and maintenance of IRC vehicles and their accessories.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and record the condition of the vehicle daily; prepare weekly maintenance checklists.
  • Ensure timely servicing and maintenance of IRC vehicles and maintain service maintenance records.
  • Report any mechanical problems to the supervisor.
  • Ensure vehicle insurance and all legal documents are up to date, and notify the supervisor three weeks before renewals.
  • Conduct daily assessments of road conditions and security situations.
  • Drive IRC staff safely and courteously to various field sites across the country.
  • Deliver mail and messages as directed.
  • Operate HF and VHF mobile radio equipment.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle, both interior and exterior.
  • Provide accurate reconciliation within given periods.
  • Follow IRC vehicle policies and procedures at all times.
  • Assist programs or supply chain team in loading cargo for field trips.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an Ordinary Level Certificate; A-Level Certificate is an added advantage.
  • Valid driver’s license with classes “A, B, C1 & D1.”
  • Minimum of two (2) years of driving experience, preferably with NGOs.
  • Must pass IRC’s driving test.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work in dynamic and diverse environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Willingness to travel to insecure areas within IRC Uganda’s security guidelines.
