Job Overview:
The Infectious Diseases Institute is seeking two Graduate Trainee Software Developers to participate in the development and maintenance of Web and Mobile applications at the Academy. This is an opportunity for fresh graduates to gain hands-on experience in software development while contributing to impactful health information systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in requirements gathering, analysis, design, development, and implementation of software applications.
- Support the development and installation of new modules for the Call For Life health information system (Java-based, built on OpenMRS).
- Develop client and web-based applications.
- Provide support and documentation, and occasionally train users on the applications developed.
- Extract, manipulate, and analyze data from databases for reporting purposes.
- Collaborate with clients and IDI team members at various implementation sites both in-person and remotely.
- Stay current with relevant technologies as assigned.
- Participate in special projects and liaise with Academy partners, including government agencies and suppliers.
Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Information Technology.
Person Specification:
- Able to work in both Microsoft and Linux environments.
- Strong ability to brainstorm effectively with team members, thrive in a collaborative environment, and manage multiple tasks.
- Some understanding of the software development lifecycle and experience with iterative development methodologies and tools is an advantage.
- Experience with modern programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, etc., is an advantage.
- Knowledge of Asterisk or similar telecommunications platforms is preferred.
- Familiarity with MySQL, MongoDB, or other database systems is an advantage.
- A portfolio showcasing previous related work is highly advantageous.
- Experience or interest in health information systems (e.g., DHIS2, OpenMRS) will be an added advantage.
