About the Company:
Integrated Seed and Sector Development Uganda (ISSD Uganda) is an independent, locally registered organization in Uganda, aiming to be a leading agricultural development organization. ISSD Uganda focuses on fostering resilient seed and food systems for sustainable agricultural production. Currently, ISSD Uganda is implementing the Common Ground Project, a land restoration and farming systems project funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kampala.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate activities to improve marketing for smallholder farmers, especially women and youth, in the Elgon region.
- Facilitate the identification and resolution of market access bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with cooperatives to enhance farmer-inclusive value chain development.
- Build capacities of value chain partners and stakeholders to establish sustainable business relations with farmers.
- Develop training materials and provide entrepreneurial training to women and youth groups.
- Support entrepreneurial initiatives and report on their performance.
- Forge partnerships and agreements to improve market access at the community and district levels.
- Provide technical support to field staff, farmers, and organizations in planning and implementing actions.
- Identify and facilitate farmers’ access to relevant financial services and products.
- Establish strong links with key stakeholders and identify synergies with other project interventions.
- Document lessons learned and propose improvements for project implementation.
- Prepare and submit periodic progress reports.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in rural smallholder business development and value chain development projects.
- At least 5 years of experience in local value chain development projects, preferably in the Eastern Highlands of Uganda.
- Knowledge of value addition, market access for smallholder farmers, and working with farmer associations.
- Experience with SACCOs, VSLAs, and financial institutions to improve farmers’ access to financial services.
- Proven ability to appraise business cases and experience with gender-focused entrepreneurship programs.
- Excellent communication skills in English and knowledge of local languages in the Elgon area is an added advantage.
- Strong reporting and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel to project locations including Elgon, Rwenzori, and Kigezi regions.
