Job Summary:
Our client, based in Kampala, Uganda, is seeking a Human Resource Officer (HRO) to assist with day-to-day HR operations, focusing on employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, payroll, and administrative tasks. The HRO will play a key role in ensuring HR functions run efficiently, fostering a positive work environment, and supporting the company’s objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Employee Relations:
- Act as the main point of contact for employees with HR-related inquiries
- Assist in managing employee concerns, grievances, and disciplinary actions in collaboration with management
- Promote a positive employee work culture
Recruitment and Onboarding:
- Assist in recruitment processes: job postings, resume screening, and coordinating interviews
- Support onboarding by ensuring all documentation is completed and filed
- Conduct orientation sessions for new hires
Payroll and Benefits Administration:
- Assist in payroll preparation, ensuring accurate timekeeping and processing
- Handle employee benefits administration, including leave management and statutory deductions
- Maintain records of attendance, absences, and leave balances
HR Compliance and Record Keeping:
- Ensure employee records comply with Ugandan labor laws and company policies
- Assist in drafting and updating HR policies and procedures
- Track employee contracts, renewals, and terminations
Performance Management:
- Support the performance appraisal process by organizing evaluations
- Assist in implementing Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) for underperforming employees
Training and Development:
- Coordinate training programs by identifying employee needs and scheduling sessions
- Maintain records of employee training and certifications
HR Reporting:
- Prepare regular HR reports on key metrics like headcount and turnover
- Provide insights to support management decisions
Administrative Duties:
- Assist with daily office operations, including managing HR correspondence and filing
- Coordinate staff meetings, schedule agendas, and take meeting minutes
- Manage HR supplies and maintain inventory
Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an HR role
Skills:
- Strong understanding of Ugandan labor laws and HR best practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
