The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is looking for a MEAL Volunteer to support the PlayMatters Project in Arua. This project is an education initiative funded by the LEGO Foundation, reimagining childhood for over 800,000 refugee and host-community children across Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda, using Learning through Play (LtP) methodologies. The MEAL Volunteer will assist in monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) activities for the project.



Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Collect and update relevant school data using PlayMatters’ recommended tools and platforms.
  • Provide daily reports and timesheets detailing work effort to the RMEAL Officer.
  • Update databases such as CommCare (PMIMS, PAIMS) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ensure proper storage and filing of reports and forms.
  • Clean, enter, and conduct preliminary data analysis to ensure quality and completeness.
  • Perform consistency checks and make data edits as needed.
  • Collaborate with school focal persons to strengthen data collection efforts.
  • Support administrative roles in the IRC office related to MEAL activities.
  • Participate in data reviews, providing feedback to the MEAL Manager.
  • Support surveys, assessments, and data management tasks.
  • Make routine backups and updates on M&E box files and folders.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Demography, Economics, Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), or related field. An advanced certificate in M&E or statistics is an added advantage.
  • Basic understanding of monitoring and client feedback mechanisms.
  • Experience with qualitative research methods and analysis is a plus.
  • Ability to undertake MEAL activities as per guidance from supervisors.
  • Experience working with diverse communities, youth, and adults.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.
  • Willingness to travel to field sites and work on location.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in local languages in and around the refugee settlement is required.
