Job Summary:
The Environmental and Social (E&S) Specialist will be part of the Sustainability Unit within Risk Management, reporting to the Head of Sustainability. The primary role is to support the implementation of the bank’s Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), Environmental and Social (E&S) Risk Policy, and E&S Standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of the Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) and E&S Risk Policy.
  • Conduct Environmental and Social (E&S) risk assessments, due diligence, and monitoring in project finance, corporate lending, and investment portfolios.
  • Manage and evaluate E&S risks in alignment with Uganda’s E&S regulations and international best practices.
  • Prepare sustainability reports and comply with reporting standards such as GRI, IFRS, TCFD, and PCAF.
  • Interpret and analyze data required for E&S risk management, reporting, and execution of the role.
  • Engage with various stakeholders confidently and effectively.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education & Experience:
    • At least 3 years of experience in risk management, business management, advisory roles, finance, credit, operations, reporting, environment, or social performance.
    • Experience with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations, particularly within the financial sector.
    • Experience in conducting E&S risk assessments and due diligence.
    • Familiarity with Uganda’s E&S regulations in the banking sector and global best practices.
    • Knowledge of sustainability reporting standards (GRI, IFRS, TCFD, PCAF).
  • Skills:
    • Strong project management, data analysis, and reporting skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Demonstrated ability to engage with stakeholders and deliver results-oriented work.

Behavioral Competencies:

  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Results-oriented with strong self-drive and motivation
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills

Technical Competencies:

  • Knowledge of ESG policies, standards, and Environmental and Social Management systems
  • Experience with E&S risk identification, assessment, and monitoring
  • Awareness of global ESG trends and regulatory compliance
