Job Overview
The Communications Specialist will report to the Communications Manager and will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the Absa Group Limited communication function within the Ugandan context. This role involves managing internal and external communication channels to ensure effective two-way communication across all levels. The Communications Specialist will also support the business goals and objectives through strategic communication initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Internal Communications Delivery (40%)
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand communication needs and provide necessary support to the leadership team.
- Draft and secure agreement on content for communications, aligning with the communication plan and Absa Group’s strategic messages.
- Establish and manage the internal communications program in line with the overall Absa Group communication plan.
- Update country pages with current information, news, and visuals, including the local intranet.
- Ensure timely delivery of communications to target audiences and establish a healthy two-way communication process.
- Incorporate brand values and visual identity into communication materials.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders and measure the effectiveness of communication interventions.
- Align internal communication policies with Absa Uganda standards and represent the MCX Department in functional meetings as required.
External Communications Delivery (20%)
- Build and manage relationships with local media for effective external communications.
- Monitor media stories and provide daily and monthly media briefs assessing Absa’s impact.
- Develop communications support for programs and campaigns, identifying key issues affecting the business.
- Research and write for various communication platforms, ensuring swift delivery to target audiences.
Business Partnering (20%)
- Prepare and maintain a stakeholder list/matrix for communication support.
- Share best practices and seek opportunities for continuous improvement within the Marketing & Customer Experience function.
- Foster a ‘one team’ ethos with media/communication colleagues centrally and regionally.
Risk, Governance, and Regulatory (20%)
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework, and internal Absa policies.
- Understand and manage relevant risks and incidents in the role.
Education
- Higher Diploma in Communication Studies and Language (Required)
