Job Summary:
The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) will provide leadership in Finance and Accounting at AKES Uganda. The role focuses on financial oversight, risk management, compliance with AKES policies, and ensuring that financial processes deliver measurable results aligned with the organization’s strategic goals. The CFO will work closely with the CEO to monitor overall organizational performance and contribute to the development, execution, and monitoring of repositioning strategies.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure on-time fee collection and minimization of debtors; timely supplier payments, employee payroll, and VAT/tax filings.
  • Implement effective financial controls, offering training to staff where needed.
  • Review balance sheets monthly and ensure accurate financial reporting to the Head Office, CEO, and Board.
  • Manage AKES Uganda’s treasury, ensuring liquidity and low-risk investments.
  • Drive the annual operational budget cycle and strengthen financial management policies across all units.
  • Provide training and mentoring to finance staff, enhancing team capacity.
  • Ensure compliance with best practices, institutional policies, and government legislation.
  • Collaborate with the CEO, Board Chairperson, and FAC Chairperson to support effective Board governance.
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of Financial Information Systems and ensure the accuracy of data related to revenues and HR.
  • Monitor financial performance of capital projects and ensure proper cash flow forecasting.
  • Support the CEO and senior management with operational oversight.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • University graduate with professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, or equivalent Chartered Accountant.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience, including leadership roles in a commercial or not-for-profit setting.
  • Substantial experience managing finances of multiple business units; experience in education organizations is an advantage.
  • Expertise in financial systems, business analysis, audit, and compliance.
  • High cultural awareness, drive, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Strong written and spoken English, and experience in writing reports and proposals.
  • A clear understanding of strategy and business acumen, coupled with creative problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
