Role Overview
The Branch Manager will oversee the operations of the bank branch, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, driving business growth, managing human resources, mitigating risks, and providing quality customer service. This position reports directly to the Regional Manager.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Growth
- Drive growth of the loan and deposit portfolios.
- Increase customer numbers for savers and borrowers.
- Formulate and implement marketing plans for bank products and services.
- Conduct performance assessments of staff against targets.
- Review and approve loan applications in the credit committee.
2. HR Management
- Cascade performance targets to all staff.
- Appraise the performance of branch supervisors.
- Mentor, coach, and train branch staff.
- Manage staff attendance and leave plans.
3. Administration and Logistics
- Provide oversight over bank assets and ensure proper usage.
4. Risk Management and Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all policies and procedures.
- Conduct spot checks on field officers and enforce internal controls.
- Recommend policy changes and conduct BCP tests as required.
5. Customer Service
- Ensure high-quality customer service and experience.
- Maintain strong customer relationships.
6. Planning & Budgeting
- Review and monitor branch budgets, including staffing and CAPEX.
- Minimize petty cash expenses.
7. Leadership
- Develop and enforce activity plans.
- Act as Chairperson in branch meetings.
- Monitor liquidity and branch cash flows.
- Represent the bank at corporate events and ensure a positive image.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Marketing, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in banking or a similar environment, with 2+ years in a supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of branch banking operations, product features, and compliance.
- Excellent customer service and team leadership skills.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in verbal and written communication.
- High level of computer literacy.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills and integrity.
- Willingness to work in the field (60% of the time) and outside the Central Business District of Kampala.
