Position Overview:

Uganda Airlines is seeking a Station Manager at Gatwick Airport to ensure the efficient and cost-effective delivery of ground handling services, promote an “On Time Performance” (OTP) culture, and manage day-to-day airport operations. The Station Manager will be responsible for maintaining the highest performance in all aspects of ground handling services, while ensuring safety, security, and compliance with international aviation standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee ground handling services, including passenger check-in, baggage handling, and ramp operations.
  • Drive and sustain an “On Time Performance” culture within the airport team.
  • Ensure all Uganda Airlines flights are met upon arrival and departure.
  • Manage mishandled baggage and maintain the target of 3 mishandled bags per 1000 passengers.
  • Establish internal quality audit programs and training matrices for ground operations staff.
  • Implement safety and security improvement plans for Uganda Airlines airport operations.
  • Prepare and submit monthly station reports on ground handling activities.
  • Lead, train, and develop the airport team, ensuring alignment with Uganda Airlines’ strategic goals.
  • Ensure all airport services operations meet compliance standards, including IATA/ICAO regulations.
  • Represent Uganda Airlines at the Airport Operators Committee (AOC) and liaise with key clients and stakeholders to maintain competitive advantages.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Aviation, or related discipline.
  • Certifications: IATA Diploma.
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of managerial experience in a reputable airline, with at least 5 years in a busy environment (preferably Heathrow or Gatwick).
  • Skills: Strong communication, management, and leadership skills, with a proven ability to implement strategies, manage ground operations, and work under pressure.
  • Competencies: Strong customer service orientation, commercial awareness, negotiation skills, and experience managing large teams.

    • Airside Safety Training
    • Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR)
    • Aviation Security (AVSEC)
    • Safety Risk Management
    • Station/Ground Handling Management (IATA)
  • Refresher & On-the-Job Training:
    • Airside Safety Training refresher
    • Aviation Security Awareness refresher
    • DGR Training refresher
    • Local Emergency Response Plan (LERP) refresher
    • Safety Management Systems (SMS) refresher

Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and ability to influence at all levels.
  • Proactive team player with a results-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to manage and develop a large team while ensuring the delivery of high-quality service.
  • Experience with large-scale ground handling operations in high-traffic passenger hubs.
  • Excellent attention to detail, professionalism, and cultural awareness.

Work Hours: 8 per day
Experience Required: 7 years (84 months)
Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree
