Job Summary
Responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of the electrical systems on a wide range of heavy equipment used in the construction industry. This role requires a strong understanding of DC electrical systems and the ability to operate various workshop equipment to efficiently assemble and repair machinery.
Roles and responsibilities
• Repair or replace faulty electrical components, such as batteries, alternators, starters, and wiring harnesses.
• Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and avoid breakdowns.
Service and maintain a range of construction equipment including bulldozers, dump trucks, tipper trucks, articulated trucks, cranes, telehandlers, wheel loaders, excavators, forklifts, power generators, compressors, tower lights, water pumps, and other general small equipment.
Assemble, install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, components, and systems in heavy-duty equipment.
• Perform repairs on electrical systems, including wiring harnesses, control modules, and lighting systems.
• Diagnose electrical issues using diagnostic equipment and schematics.
• Collaborate with other technicians and engineers to troubleshoot complex electrical problems.
• Test electrical systems to ensure proper functioning and compliance with specifications.
• Keep accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts inventory.
• Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while working in the workshop and on job sites.
Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and equipment advancements.
• Provide training and guidance to junior technicians as needed.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical education in automotive engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in auto electrical systems repair, preferably in heavy mobile equipment.
• Extensive experience with diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical problems in mobile equipment, including brands like Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr, Volvo, MAN, TATA, Sinotruk, Manitou, Atlas Copco, and Wacker Neuson.
• National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) Crane Operator Certification or Any manufacturer-specific training or certification related to the mentioned equipment brands (Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr, Volvo, etc.).
• In-depth knowledge of auto electrical systems, including wiring, control modules, and diagnostics.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical problems.
• Strong understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems (advantageous).
• Experience with welding and fabrication techniques (advantageous).
