Overview
The Chevening Energy Market Reform Fellowship offers senior executives and experts from China’s energy sector the chance to spend three months as visiting fellows at the University of Dundee in the UK. Hosted by the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law Policy (CEPMLP), the fellowship is fully funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO). This opportunity aligns with the UK-China Energy Dialogue’s objectives and provides a structured environment for fellows to engage in in-depth research on energy market reforms.
Program Structure
- Fellows will spend three months at the University of Dundee working on a specific research topic relevant to UK-China energy relations.
- The research project will be agreed upon with an academic supervisor from CEPMLP, who will guide the fellows through their work.
- Fellows will have full access to university seminars, lectures, and classes to support their research.
- Cultural activities and events will be organized by the Chevening Secretariat and FCDO to enrich the fellowship experience.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be from China and intend to return after the fellowship.
- Hold a postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional training in a relevant field.
- Have at least five years of professional experience, or be a current PhD candidate (not pursuing the PhD in the UK, EU, or US).
- Not hold dual nationality (British or others that are exempt under Chevening guidelines).
- Not be a current or recent employee (within two years) or close relative of an employee of His Majesty’s Government or associated institutions.
- Former recipients of HMG-funded scholarships/fellowships can apply after five years, provided they demonstrate career progress.
Additional Notes:
- Employees or close relatives of Chevening Partner organizations may apply but are ineligible for Partner Awards if the employment was within the past two years.
