Job Overview:

Spark MicroGrants is seeking a Finance Manager to lead its financial planning, budgeting, and reporting operations. This role is critical for ensuring effective internal controls, overseeing financial systems, and supporting partner finance management. The Finance Manager will work closely with the Head of Finance and Senior Management to provide financial analysis and insights that drive strategic decisions and foster growth.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Planning & Analysis:

  • Develop and manage financial plans, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Analyze financial trends to guide decision-making.
  • Ensure financial objectives and targets are achieved.
  • Implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with governance and financial risk management.

2. Financial Reporting:

  • Submit monthly financial reports.
  • Prepare quarterly presentations on financial performance for stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with local reporting standards and donor agreements.

3. Financial Operations:

  • Review and approve expense reports in accordance with organizational guidelines.
  • Conduct finance training for the team.
  • Implement and maintain effective financial controls, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

4. Bookkeeping & Accounting:

  • Conduct internal audits and ensure quality bookkeeping.
  • Manage financial reporting to meet IFRS standards, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

5. Cash Management:

  • Manage cash flow to meet operational needs and optimize cost efficiency.

6. Risk Management:

  • Identify and manage financial risks.
  • Train staff and partners on financial procedures, conducting regular audit reviews.

7. Team Management:

  • Supervise and lead the finance team, ensuring strong performance and productivity.

8. Partner & Microgrants Management:

  • Review partner finance reports for accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee MicroGrant proposals and ensure alignment with Spark’s policies.
  • Conduct community audits and manage MicroGrant disbursements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA/ACCA/CPA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years of finance experience, with a significant portion in managerial roles.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, Uganda tax regulations, and proficiency with accounting software (Oracle Netsuite is an advantage).
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Experience in the NGO sector or similar industries is an asset.
