About New Vision Group:

The New Vision Printing and Publishing Company Ltd is a leading media company in Uganda. The organization is looking to recruit a dynamic and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Assistant Accountant.

Job Overview:

The Assistant Accountant will support the company’s accounting operations, handling bookkeeping, clerical, and financial tasks under the guidance of the Principal Accountant. The position is responsible for maintaining ledgers, verifying transactions, preparing financial documents, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Principal Accountant and team members to execute accounting tasks.
  • Maintain ledgers, track daily financial transactions, and identify discrepancies for correction.
  • Verify payments and deposits made through the company account and liaise with the bank.
  • Prepare financial documents such as receipts, invoices, purchase orders, and journals.
  • Generate daily financial reports for management and team members.
  • Compile and input financial data into Excel as directed by the supervisor.
  • Manage payments to external service providers, vendors, contractors, and freelancers.
  • Reconcile accounts on a day-to-day basis.
  • Maintain an organized filing system and assist with retrieving documents for various stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Business Administration.
  • Experience:
    • Experience working in a busy FMCG environment.
    • Knowledge of double-entry accounting principles.

Technical Competencies:

  • Proficiency in standard accounting software.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to compile reports efficiently.

Behavioral Competencies:

  • High levels of reliability, integrity, and trustworthiness.
  • Strong team player with the ability to adapt and learn quickly.
  • Self-driven and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Communication and Collaboration:

The Assistant Accountant will provide accurate financial information to the supervisor, finance manager, colleagues, and clients. They will play a key role in supporting the finance department in preparing financial statements, managing resources, and ensuring proper document filing.

Scope for Impact:

The Assistant Accountant will work independently, following the finance manual’s guidelines. Their role is critical in maintaining accurate financial records, identifying and correcting errors, and ensuring efficient financial operations within the company.
