Job Overview:
Farm Radio International is seeking a UX Writer & Researcher to contribute to the design and enhancement of the Uliza web application. The role focuses on crafting user-centered content and conducting user research to improve the application’s usability. The project, which runs from September 2024 to August 2026, aims to transform speech into actionable text with high accuracy and contextual awareness using advanced machine learning and natural language processing techniques.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Write clear, concise, and user-friendly copy for the web application, including onboarding, error messages, and instructional content.
  • Ensure a consistent voice and tone that aligns with the brand and enhances user experience.
  • Collaborate with designers and developers to integrate copy into the design and functionality.
  • Conduct user research to understand needs, behaviors, and pain points, especially in relation to ASR technology.
  • Use methods such as interviews, surveys, and usability testing to gather data.
  • Analyze findings to inform UX writing and design decisions.
  • Develop content strategies to enhance the user experience and create content guidelines for consistency.
  • Document research findings, content strategies, and writing guidelines.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate research insights to stakeholders.

Project Mandate & Deliverables:

  • UX Copy: Develop clear, user-friendly content for buttons, forms, error messages, onboarding, etc.
  • Research Reports: Provide insights into user behavior and actionable recommendations for UX improvement.
  • Content Strategy Documents: Outline plans for content creation, management, and maintenance.
  • Usability Testing Results: Summarize user feedback, identified issues, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Content Guidelines: Document best practices for UX writing tailored to the Uliza application.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communication, UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail and user-centered content creation.
  • Experience in user research, usability testing, and data analysis.
  • Excellent intercultural communication skills.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Expenses:
FRI will cover all costs related to the volunteer assignment, including transportation and monthly stipends.

Work Hours: 8 hours per day
