WWF Uganda is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and highly qualified Wildlife and Protected Areas Manager to support the Forest and Biodiversity Program.

Reports to: Forest and Biodiversity Program Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote and support conservation innovations, technologies, and best practices to combat poaching, illegal wildlife trafficking, and trade.
  • Promote tourism, ecotourism, and non-consumptive wildlife-based enterprises within protected areas and adjacent communities.
  • Support the development and implementation of Protected Area (PA) Management Plans, adhering to internationally recognized best practices.
  • Facilitate the establishment of sustainable financing mechanisms (e.g., public-private partnerships) for priority Protected Areas.
  • Support the development of Human-Wildlife Conflict Management and Species Management Plans for key Protected Areas.
  • Provide technical leadership for biodiversity conservation under the WWF UCO Forest and Biodiversity Program.
  • Conduct monitoring and evaluation of biodiversity conservation activities to track progress, document lessons, and assess impacts on livelihoods and conservation goals.
  • Document case studies, share best practices, and provide training on biodiversity conservation for staff and partners.
  • Build alliances with civil society, public, and private organizations to strengthen biodiversity conservation advocacy.
  • Coordinate capacity-building activities and policy development for biodiversity conservation in Uganda.
  • Prepare and submit work plans, budgets, and technical reports as part of the program’s planning cycle.
  • Provide technical advice to the WWF UCO Senior Management Team on strategic biodiversity issues.
  • Support the development of new funding concepts and proposals.
  • Foster a cohesive biodiversity conservation team by providing technical backstopping, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Represent the program at national and international forums as required.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Wildlife Management, Natural Resources Management, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Ecology or Management.
  • Training in Project Planning and Management is desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience in interventions aimed at curbing wildlife crimes is essential.
  • At least 7 years of experience in biodiversity conservation and management, with specific experience in the Albertine Graben being an added advantage.
  • Experience with government agencies is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience using conservation technologies such as GIS, SMART, Earth Ranger, drones, and wildlife camera traps.
  • Experience working with civil society and the private sector is an added advantage.

  • Strong conceptual, analytical, and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment.
  • Detail-oriented and able to multitask with minimal supervision.
