Job Summary:

The Head of Operations is responsible for managing UWEAL’s operational functions, ensuring that infrastructure, logistics, and administrative systems support the organization’s mission. This role collaborates closely with the Head of Programs and other department heads to ensure that all operational aspects align with UWEAL’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operational Management:
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of UWEAL, ensuring efficiency in administrative and logistical functions.
    • Develop and refine operational policies and procedures.
    • Manage procurement processes, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
    • Maintain UWEAL’s facilities and manage repairs/upgrades.
  2. Strategic Planning and Implementation:
    • Support strategic planning by providing insights on operational capacities.
    • Develop operational plans aligning with UWEAL’s strategic objectives.
    • Monitor and evaluate operational performance.
  3. Collaboration with Head of Programs:
    • Coordinate operational support to align with programmatic needs.
    • Participate in program planning meetings to provide input on logistics and administration.
  4. Financial Management:
    • Collaborate with the Finance Manager to manage the operational budget.
    • Implement cost-saving measures while maintaining operational efficiency.
  5. Human Resource Management:
    • Supervise the operations team and support professional growth.
    • Ensure effective implementation of HR policies within the operations department.
  6. Risk Management and Compliance:
    • Identify and mitigate operational risks.
    • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
  7. Reporting and Communication:
    • Provide regular reports on operational activities and performance to the CEO and Board.
    • Represent UWEAL in external operations-related meetings.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Postgraduate degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in operations management, preferably in a membership or non-profit organization.
  • Strong understanding of Ugandan labor laws and compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience in logistics, procurement, and administrative management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Financial Acumen: Proficiency in budgeting and cost-effective operations.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Understanding of regulatory requirements and operational risks.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
