Position Summary:
The Ambulance Driver will be responsible for the safe transportation of passengers and goods, supporting nurses in emergency situations, and maintaining vehicle safety and compliance with regulations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Operation: Drive according to MTI fleet management policies and Uganda road regulations. Ensure safety and security of passengers (patients, staff, volunteers, guests).
- Emergency Support: Assist nurses in administering first aid and other interventions as needed.
- Maintenance and Repairs: Identify maintenance needs, alert the supervisor, and arrange for necessary repairs and maintenance.
- Logbook and Reports: Record all movements in the vehicle logbook and submit weekly inspection reports.
- Fuel Management: Ensure the vehicle always has sufficient fuel.
- Safety: Ensure passengers use appropriate safety restraints and verify loading/unloading of goods.
- Documentation: Ensure all necessary papers are in order before travel and manage vehicle documents.
- Cleanliness: Keep the vehicle clean and free of debris.
- Inventory: Routinely inventory emergency and first aid supplies and report needs.
- Emergency Procedures: Follow MTI procedures in case of accidents and emergencies, complete written accident reports.
- Training: Participate in safety and defensive driving training.
Qualifications:
- Education: Minimum of O Level (UCE).
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years driving experience with Class DL license in an international NGO.
- Certifications: Defensive driving certification required. First Aid and CPR certification is an advantage. Vehicle mechanics and maintenance certification is a plus.
- Driving Record: Clean driving record required. Additional driving licenses (Heavy duty & Light vehicles) are an asset.
- Experience: Experience driving an ambulance or other emergency response vehicles is advantageous.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of road safety regulations and defensive driving techniques.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and maintenance.
- Skilled in administering First Aid and CPR.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and prioritize patient care.
- Physically fit and able to handle vehicle loading.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to keep accurate records and write reports.
- Adherence to MTI Code of Conduct and organizational procedures.
Work Hours: 8 hours per day
