Position Overview

Steel & Tube is seeking an experienced Import Officer to manage the procurement process, ensure smooth delivery of shipments, and develop cost-saving strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Procurement Management: Oversee the entire procurement process for the organization.
  • Shipment Coordination: Ensure no storage or demurrage on import shipments; liaise with forwarders, clearing agents, and port authorities.
  • Cost Management: Develop and implement strategies for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Document Verification: Verify import documents, confirm HSCode declarations, and ensure timely delivery of goods.
  • Finance Liaison: Work with the Finance department for advance payments and update suppliers.
  • Cycle Monitoring: Monitor the import cycle closely, from order confirmation to delivery.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Supplier Relationships: Establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers.
  • Team Management: Manage the team effectively for optimum output.
  • Safety and Environmental Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety and environmental guidelines.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Relevant degree in Imports, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5-7 years in import and procurement management.
  • Skills: In-depth understanding of the import process and customs clearance; strong communication and team management abilities.

Authority:

  • Reports to the Operations Manager.

Interfaces:

  • Works with cross-functional departments (Admin, Sales, Finance, PPIC, Stores), peers, and direct reporting team members.

  • Maintain cleanliness and security of the workplace and cargo.
  • Promote health and safety, encourage teamwork, and uphold company values.
