Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- To support the Legal Manager in ensuring that all liability and third party claims are managed efficiently and in a cost effective manner thereby meeting the customer expectations and the Company’s Corporate Objectives and provide company secretarial support and in house legal advisory services.
- Reduced litigation costs through in-house negotiations and settlements
- Reduced customer complaints at the IRA Complaints Bureau and improved customer relations
- Maintenance of adequate estimates for reserves (reserves that are as accurate as possible and reflect the prevailing economic, legal and social environment).
- Timely and prompt recoveries.
- Timely drafting or review of contracts as required by other business units
- Existence of up to date contracts and/or SLAs for all service providers.
- Improved claims processes and procedures and 100% compliance to QOP and ISO
- Recommend changes and give legal opinion on procedures and gaps arising from the technical legal process to ensure that we enhance positive customer experience.
- Supervise and ensure that all legal claims are registered and acknowledged promptly and customers are reminded regularly of outstanding documents and constantly updates on the status to facilitate settlement of the claim.
- Monitor that external counsel acting for the company provides status reports on a quarterly basis or as may be required from time to time.
- Prepare for the Board regular reports on all material legal claims.
- Carry out research and preparing reports/legal opinions on complex legal issues.
- Participate in negotiations on commercial and business related matters;
- Vet and draw contracts, leases, agreements and other legal documents between the Company and third parties
- Negotiate out of court settlements with Company’s creditors / debtors;
- Support the provision of efficient Board secretariat services as may be directed from time to time;
- Participate in formulation and review of legal policies and procedures for the Company.
- Monitor contractual and statutory compliance.
- Monitor that the reserve is correctly set and regularly retrieved to reflect current position of the company’s liability
- Monitor that recoveries are made promptly and within the specified time scales so as to reduce the final cost of the claims.
- Handle conveyance matters
