Job Summary:

As a Graduate Trainee in Database Administration at the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), you will play a critical role in the administration and optimization of our database systems, particularly REDCap and other related platforms. This position focuses on ensuring the efficient management of data for clinical trials and observational studies through innovative use of REDCap functionalities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • REDCap Administration:
    • Regularly update REDCap to the latest stable version.
    • Manage project approvals, user accounts, and enable necessary modules.
    • Provide general administrative support.
  • Database Design and Setup:
    • Assist in designing and developing REDCap data dictionaries aligned with IDI’s data harmonization strategy.
    • Support data managers with queries related to data dictionary development.
  • REDCap Mobile Setup:
    • Facilitate offline data collection by setting up mobile devices.
    • Train data collection teams on using REDCap mobile.
  • Data Warehouse Development:
    • Integrate various REDCap projects into a data warehouse.
  • Automation:
    • Automate REDCap procedures, query generation, and report visualization using reporting services and PowerBI.
  • Database Maintenance:
    • Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and apply updates or patches as necessary.
  • Backup and Recovery:
    • Develop and implement backup strategies to ensure data integrity and recovery.
  • Security Management:
    • Enforce security protocols to protect sensitive data, including managing user access and encryption.
  • Performance Tuning:
    • Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, and efficient database storage management.
  • Data Integrity:
    • Ensure data accuracy and consistency through validation rules and routine data queries.
  • Data Harmonization:
    • Use the OMOP Common Data Model to harmonize REDCap data, ensuring it is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR).
  • Support and Training:
    • Assist data managers and research staff with REDCap challenges.
    • Provide training on new features and innovative usage of REDCap.
  • SOP Development:
    • Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for data security, backup and recovery, data standardization, de-identification, and data transfer.

Academic Qualification:

  • Recent graduate or pending graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • A minimum CGPA of 4.0 is required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of SQL and database management systems (DBMS) such as MySQL or SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with REDCap or similar Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems.
  • Programming knowledge in SQL, R, or Python is an added advantage.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, even at a minimal level, is an added advantage.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving technical environments.
