About Organisation:
Soroti Fruits Limited (SOFTE) is a fruit processing plant and a subsidiary of Uganda Development Corporation (UDC). The company will also produce ready to drink fruit juice as well as concentrates from Ugandan produced fruits notably Oranges, Mangoes and Pineapples.
 
Job Summary:   To oversee the maintenance, repair, and optimization of all electrical and mechanical systems within the factory, ensuring the efficient operation of machinery and equipment used in the processing, packaging, and storage of fruit products and to lead a team of technicians, ensuring compliance with safety standards and supporting continuous improvement in operational efficiency.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Support Management

Oversee Daily Operations: Manage and supervise the day-to-day operations of the technical services team, ensuring timely and effective resolution of technical issues.
Escalation Handling: Act as the point of escalation for complex technical problems, providing guidance and solutions to the team.
Customer Support: Ensure that technical support services meet customer needs and expectations, aiming for high levels of customer satisfaction.

Team Leadership and Development

Team Supervision: Lead and mentor a team of technicians or technical support staff, providing direction, feedback, and support to enhance their performance.
Training and Development: Identify training needs and facilitate ongoing training sessions to improve the team’s technical skills and knowledge.
Performance Management: Conduct regular performance reviews, set objectives, and develop improvement plans for team members.

Process Improvement

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Develop, implement, and refine SOPs for technical services to ensure consistency and efficiency in service delivery.
Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in technical services, implement changes, and monitor the effectiveness of those changes.
Quality Assurance: Ensure that all technical services are delivered in accordance with the company’s quality standards and industry best practices.

Project Management

Technical Projects: Assist in planning, executing, and managing technical projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
Resource Allocation: Allocate resources effectively across projects and tasks to maximize efficiency and meet deadlines.
Reporting: Prepare and present regular project and performance reports to senior management.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement

Client Interaction: Maintain regular communication with clients or internal stakeholders to understand their technical needs and ensure services are aligned with those needs.
Feedback Collection: Gather feedback from clients and stakeholders on the effectiveness of technical services and use this feedback to drive improvements.
Technical Consultations: Provide expert technical advice and consultations to clients or internal departments as required.

Vendor and Supplier Management

Vendor Coordination: Liaise with external vendors and suppliers to ensure the
procurement of high-quality technical equipment and services.
Supplier Evaluation: Evaluate and monitor the performance of vendors to ensure that they meet contractual obligations and quality standards.
Contract Management: Assist in negotiating and managing contracts with technical service providers and suppliers.

Budget and Resource Management

Budgeting: Assist in the preparation and management of the technical services budget, ensuring that spending is within allocated limits.
Cost Control: Identify opportunities for cost savings within the technical services function without compromising on quality or service levels.
Resource Optimization: Ensure that technical resources (e.g., tools, equipment) are used efficiently and maintained properly.

Compliance and Safety

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all technical services comply with relevant industry regulations and company policies.
Safety Standards: Promote and enforce safety standards within the technical team, ensuring that all operations are conducted in a safe manner.
Risk Management: Identify potential risks in technical operations and develop strategies to mitigate them.

Technology and Systems Management

System Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and updating of technical systems, ensuring they are functioning optimally.
Technology Adoption: Assist in the evaluation and adoption of new technologies that can improve service delivery or operational efficiency.
Troubleshooting: Provide advanced troubleshooting support for complex technical issues.

Reporting and Documentation

Technical Documentation: Ensure that all technical processes, procedures, and issues are properly documented for future reference.
Reporting: Generate and present reports on the performance of the technical services team, including key metrics such as response times, resolution rates, and customer satisfaction levels.
Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of technical assets, including tools, equipment, and spare parts.

And any other duties that may be assigned by your supervisors from time to time

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
Professional certifications in maintenance, reliability, or related fields is an added advantage.
Understanding of the specific requirements and regulations in the food processing industry (e.g., HACCP, GMP). and Food safety.
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the food processing or FMCG sector.
