Call for Applications
The U.S. Mission Uganda is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 2025 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program. This prestigious program invites accomplished professionals from developing countries, including Uganda, to the United States for a ten-month program of non-degree study and professional experiences. The Humphrey Program aims to foster an exchange of knowledge and mutual understanding between U.S. citizens and professionals from Uganda. Successful applicants will be mid-career professionals working at the policy level, demonstrating leadership and a commitment to public service.
Program Details:
- Duration: Ten months (August 2025 – June 2026)
- Fields of Study: The program offers a wide range of fields including, but not limited to:
- Human and Institutional Capacity:
- Economic Development
- Finance & Banking
- Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration
- Technology Policy and Management
- Rights and Freedoms:
- Communications and Journalism
- Law and Human Rights
- Sustainable Lands:
- Agricultural and Rural Development
- Natural Resources, Environmental Policy, and Climate Change
- Urban and Regional Planning
- Thriving Communities:
- Public Health Policy and Management
- Substance Abuse Education, Treatment and Prevention
- Educational Administration, Planning, and Policy
- Human and Institutional Capacity:
Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree
- Have at least five (5) years of substantial professional experience in their field
- Be mid-career professionals with demonstrated leadership qualities and a record of public service
- Proficiency in English
Application/Selection Process:
- The application form is available at Humphrey Fellowship Application Portal
- Completed applications must be submitted online no later than May 30, 2024
- Applications should outline the applicant’s specific coursework, independent research plans, and internship intentions related to their professional goals
- Upload copies of certificates, transcripts, and letters of recommendation onto the online application
- Final nominees will need to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- Applications are reviewed by a local selection panel, with final selection made by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board
- Awards are typically announced in March/April each year for Fellowships beginning in August/September
Grant Provisions:
The Humphrey Fellowship provides:
- Round-trip economy international travel for the grantee
- Monthly maintenance allowance and funding for books and professional activities
- Tuition and university fees
- Limited accident and sickness insurance for the grantee only
Note:
Due to the popularity of the program, typically one or two Humphrey Fellowships are awarded to Ugandans each year. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
