Job Summary:

The Project Assistant (Advocacy) will lead the implementation of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) project in Kiryandongo and Adjumani Districts. The role involves ensuring that communities access their fundamental rights through structural changes, holding duty-bearers accountable for implementation. The Project Assistant will coordinate with Partner Agencies, District Local Government, NGOs, CBOs, and Local Leaders within the settlements and host communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the overall implementation of the UPR Local to Global project and other advocacy initiatives at the local level.
  • Coordinate the project implementation with partner agencies, Local Government, and CSOs at the sub-program level.
  • Manage project financial resources, procurement, and logistics efficiently at the sub-program level.
  • Support planning, monitoring, and evaluation activities in coordination with the Project Manager and M&E Officer.
  • Ensure project work includes strong gender and child protection analysis, promoting children’s and women’s rights, including gender equity.
  • Follow-up on project activities daily with partners and donors to ensure smooth implementation of administrative and operational activities.
  • Responsible for fundraising, proposal writing for advocacy initiatives, and timely reporting to donors.
  • Provide logistical support for workshops and meetings as tasked by the Project Manager and Advocacy Officer.
  • Ensure that project-related internal reporting requirements are met, and that reports are high quality and submitted on time.
  • Maintain up-to-date files and records of project documentation.
  • Represent LWF in district-level platforms, working groups, and to donors, UN agencies, government officials, national civil society, and NGOs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Team Leader, Advocacy Officer, and Project Manager.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • University degree in Law or Human Rights with a specialty in Regional and International Human Rights Mechanisms.
  • Experience in human rights practice, CSO shadow reporting, and access to justice programming.
  • 3-4 years of experience in implementing humanitarian and development programming using rights-based approaches.
  • Experience working with Local Government, coordinating and liaising with Justice Law and Order Sectors in the District.
  • Previous experience working in complex contexts with vulnerable groups in local settings.

Essential Requirements:

  • Computer literacy and knowledge of office software packages (MS Word, Excel).
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • Ability to ride Honda XL-125 Motorcycles and possession of a valid riding license.
  • Strong planning and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with short deadlines.
  • Flexibility in accomplishing tasks.
  • Ability to cope and work under pressure.
  • Well-organized, self-motivated, and able to work in a team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication in English.
  • Attention to detail in project documents.
  • Demonstrated compassion for refugees, asylum seekers, and displaced people.
  • Strategic planning abilities.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours.
