About the Company

Oil Palm Uganda Limited (OPUL), a subsidiary of Bidco Uganda Limited (BUL), is based on Kalangala Island. OPUL signed an agreement with the Ugandan Government in 2002 to undertake an integrated palm oil project on the island, as part of the Ugandan Government’s Vegetable Oil Development Project (VODP). This initiative is supported by IFAD and the World Bank, with BUL and Wilmar Plantations playing major roles.

Job Description

Position: Environment Health and Safety/Sustainability Officers
Employment Type: Full-time

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft, implement, and maintain policies and guidelines on Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS).
  • Develop, implement, administer, and maintain EHS protocols on the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety and health-related programs.
  • Review and update the corporate EHS management system manual and monitor its implementation.
  • Prepare and implement the EHS training plan in coordination with the Human Resource Department.
  • Formulate corporate short-term and long-term EHS objectives and plans.
  • Carry out accident and incident investigations and submit relevant reports.
  • Promote EHS plans, monitor, evaluate, and report performance against plan.
  • Maintain auditing expertise and ensure the execution of monthly/quarterly audit programs.
  • Maintain contacts with external parties regarding environment, health, and safety, including government institutions.
  • Provide advice on Environment, Health, and Safety to line departments.
  • Adhere to health and safety and Quality Management System (QMS) guidelines at all times.
  • Compile EHS data and report all incidents/accidents accurately and within the specified timeframe.
  • Participate in implementing the corporate EHS strategy and objectives.
  • Provide expert advice on EHS matters to management.
  • Manage all High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS) areas within and outside the concession.
  • Perform any other duties as may be determined by the company/management from time to time.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management, Engineering, or Industrial Chemistry.
  • Environmental Management Certification is an added advantage.
  • Good organizational, planning, and presentation skills.
  • Good understanding of occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Work Hours: 8

Experience in Months: No specific experience required.

Level of Education: Bachelor Degree
