Introduction:
Country: Uganda
Description of the Assignment: National Individual Consultant to oversee the Design Drilling and Construction of Motorized Boreholes and Sustainable Water Supply Solutions for Karamoja.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The Contractor is responsible for providing the following services:
- Conduct a detailed feasibility study, including field investigations and comprehensive analyses of technical, economic/financial, environmental, social, legal, and management options to assess the feasibility of water resource potentials.
- Assess the condition of existing water sources to determine their yields, quality, and suitability for motorization, and conduct hydrogeological investigations for new potential sites in areas without existing sources.
- Perform borehole siting, including reconnaissance surveys, hydrogeological investigations, and borehole design.
- Develop detailed engineering designs for piped water supply systems in the districts of Moroto, Kaabong, and Kotido.
- Create technical specifications and scope of works for proposed drilling contracts and develop bills of quantities (BOQs).
- Participate in the independent evaluation process during the procurement of borehole drilling and construction services, when requested.
- Supervise borehole construction contracts in conjunction with UNDP and District officials, ensuring skills transfer while adhering to statutory requirements and government regulations.
- Oversee and ensure the quality of construction activities.
- Provide technical support and advice for water construction activities in UNDP-supported projects within the Karamoja region.
