About Organisation:
Uganda Development Trust (UDET) is a consulting firm that provides Business Development Services {EDS} directly to grassroots community groups and SMEs engaged in businesses that are aimed at improving the living economic conditions of marginalized people, creating gainful employment and sustainable market outlets for smallholder farmers in Uganda. Currently, UDET is the Strategic Partner of the United States African Development Foundation [USADF] in Uganda.
Job Summary: UDET is the implementing Partner of the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) Program in Uganda. The Program Director will be placed in this program.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Planning: Plans, develops, implements, and directs the organization’s overall business.
- Financial management: Ensures prudent financial management which is in line with UDET’s operational procedures so as to provide accurate budgets and reports to donors and Board of Directors.
- Policies and procedures: Creates, improves, implements. and enforces policies and procedures of the organization that improve operational and financial effectiveness of UDET
- Project Development: Supports Project Development Team to undertake comprehensive due diligence on grant applicants to ensure that they meet funding criteria and objectives:
- Project implementation: Ensures effective and efficient project implementation as well as portfolio quality which includes the provision of technical assistance to grantees
- Portfolio Quality: Undertakes periodic field visits and assessments to determine portfolio quality.
- Reporting: Ensures effective and timely reporting by submitting monthly and quarterly reports to donors and Board.
- Grantee audits: Oversees grantee audits to ensure full accountability of all financial resources
- Training: Oversees grantee training
- Liaison: Coordinates in-country visits by donor headquarters staff and other visitors and maintain contact with other organizations working with grassroots organizations
- Communication: Communicates effectively and e credibility throughout the organization and with the Board of Directors.
- Human Resource: Mentors, appraises and supports members of staff at all levels to foster growth and encourage development of all members of staff.
- Corporate Governance: Organizes all Board meetings and events to ensure effect corporate governance
- Organizational visibility and networking: Improves the visibility of UOET and promotes UDET’s networking with other institutions.
- Fundraising: Raises funds to enable UDET achieve its mission, vision and objectives set out in its strategic plan.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- At least a Master’s degree in business, finance, agriculture. or any other related field from a reputable institution.
- A minimum of 5 years experience in an executive or leadership position within a corporate setting, preferably a development organization. This experience should demonstrate a track record of successful strategic leadership and decision-making.
- Solid experience in fundraising and managing large as well as complex programs.
- Hands on experience in designing and management of business enterprises.
- Good English, writing skills is highly desirable.
