IT Officer (Full Time IT Job) – Impact and Innovations Development Centre (IIDC)

Job Overview:

Impact and Innovations Development Centre (IIDC) is a not-for-profit organization focused on improving the well-being of vulnerable groups in Africa through promoting socio-economic development interventions and innovations. The IT Officer will manage and harmonize the organization’s information technology systems and infrastructure, ensuring smooth operation, security, and cost-effective deployment of IT services.

Purpose of the Job:

The IT Officer is responsible for overseeing and coordinating various aspects of the organization’s IT systems and infrastructure. They will play a crucial role in providing technical support, security, and ensuring the deployment of systems and services that support IIDC’s goals.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Hardware and Software Management:

  • Install and configure computer hardware, operating systems, and applications.
  • Troubleshoot and perform 1st level repairs of hardware, operating systems, and applications before escalation to vendors.

System and Network Administration:

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain equipment, computer systems (workstations, phones, video-conference systems, power systems, CCTV), and networks.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve IT systems and network-related challenges.
  • Manage and administer cloud instances (Microsoft365, AWS, Google Workspace, Zoom).
  • Liaise with service providers (ISP, Telephone, and printers) to ensure maximum vendor support.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement security controls and measures to protect IT systems.
  • Develop and update IT policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure best practices and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection laws.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

User Support and Training:

  • Set up new users’ accounts and profiles, ensuring data confidentiality.
  • Provide technical support, training sessions, procedural documentation, and regular reports.
  • Conduct capacity-building sessions to impart basic IT knowledge to users.

Technology Evaluation and Implementation:

  • Test and evaluate new technologies to improve organizational processes.
  • Enforce the use of cloud services for data storage to mitigate data loss risks.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in the non-profit sector.

IT Asset Management:

  • Support the procurement of IT equipment and services, including needs assessment, drafting technical specifications, and advising during the evaluation of quotations.
  • Maintain an updated inventory of IT systems, including hardware, software, licenses, and subscriptions.

Communications and Website Management:

  • Ensure the organization’s website and social media pages are regularly updated and maintained with official updates.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field.

Added Advantage:

  • Microsoft certification, CCNA, AWS cloud solutions certification, or any other relevant certification.

Competencies (Knowledge, Experience, and Skills):

  • At least three (3) years of experience providing ICT and administrative support in a development context.
  • Experience with backend administration of websites and platforms such as Plesk, cPanel.
  • Experience working in Non-government Organizations.
  • Knowledge of data protection laws.
  • Knowledge of Linux.
  • Experience with Cloud services such as Office 365, AWS, and Google Workspace.
  • Experience with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to offer in-house and remote support to users.
  • Good technical troubleshooting skills.
