Job Summary: The Production and Marketing Officer will be responsible for technical oversight and optimizing the Agricultural production processes by target beneficiaries, as well as developing and implementing marketing strategies to promote the Vanilla value Chain Production and marketing and other value chains supported by KRC-Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular market assessments/market needs analyses and identify both local and international market opportunities for the Vanilla value chain actors among other value chains supported by KRC-Uganda
- Work with the project team to enhance the quality and quantity of the vanilla value chain among other value chains’ produce to meet the market requirements
- In liaison with the Agribusiness Associate, facilitate the appropriate linkages to enable the Vanilla and other farmers access to quality in-puts, market information, prices, finance, insurance services and other knowledge that are relevant to the Vanilla and other relevant value chains.
- Organize learning and networking events like market events and trade fairs among others to foster marketing (including digital) and market access for the Vanilla value chain actors in aspects like storage, packaging and transportation
- Facilitate the actors engaged along the Vanilla and other value chains to meet quality and branding standards and attain the relevant certifications which facilitate effective marketing
- Engage and maintain the relevant key stakeholders in the trade and market sector including; but not limited to the relevant ministry, agencies and other partnerships for the promotion of internal and export trade.
- Attend Sub-county and District level activities in agriculture and cross cutting issues organized by the District Commercial and Production Departments or other collaborating organizations.
- Prepare quality, accurate and timely reports in line with the project and institutional needs and demands.
- Conduct any other roles as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness or any related course.
Experience:
- At least three years in Agricultural production and marketing. A Master’s degree in any related field is an added advantage.
Essential Skills:
- Strong marketing skills with a track record of successfully promoting agricultural products especially Vanilla
- A commitment to, and understanding of, market development solutions for rural poverty alleviation.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, analyse, and interpret data effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare quality reports.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent work planning and communication skills.
- Training, facilitation and presentation skills
- Must be ready and willing to comply with all relevant KRC-Uganda policies and procedures.
- Be passionate about improving the livelihoods of Vanilla farmers, and be extremely results-oriented towards that goal.
- Be committed to a high standard of professional performance and integrity.
- Be able to take initiative, and work independently, taking a high degree of personal responsibility for the team’s results.
- Have a private sector outlook on development, and be comfortable developing private sector partnerships which are useful to drive results.
- Be a strategic thinker with sound judgement and private and public sector experience
- Ability to speak the local languages especially Runyooro Rutooro and/or Runyankole Rukiiga/Leucons/ Lubwiisi/Lwamba
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity based in the selected districts
- Have a valid riding permit
