Feed Mill Production Manager True North

The purpose of the role is to coordinate the various production activities and processes, and ensuring staff perform as required, training across all departments occurs and stock and inventory is accounted for.

Responsibilities
Plan, monitor, coordinate and execute plant activities and processes.
• Work with Feed Mill Manager in planning and coordination of plant activities through planning with section heads to ensure the operations objective are accomplished as per the scheduled work plan.

Monitoring of plant performance by ensuring that the overall production is as per the set standard, quantity, and quality.
• Assist in monitoring and ensuring that all the sections within the feed mill are performing and producing as per the set plan and standard, that is
• Premix department.
• Production department
• Soya processing department
• Silos department
• Stores department
• Maintenance department
• Ensuring effective functioning of all feed mill equipment and machinery through timely identification of problems and resolution.
• Liaising with maintenance department to ensure execution of the preventative maintenance program.
• Assist in ensuring effective supply or distribution of feeds to various BPIL branches or sites.
• Monitoring and ensuring presence of a clean working environment.
• Developing and implementation of mechanisms to control and minimize costs like labor, overtime, consumable consumption and repair expenses.
• Assist to maintain and monitor the following records.
• Plant maintenance, feed mill and soya processing.
• Spares
• Raw materials
• Inventory
• Consumables.
• QC and HACCP
• Follow best practices.
• Ensure company receives full value of personal experience.
• Support the stock management process accountably.
• Stock/Material management; ensuring continuous monitoring of stock levels,
• storage of materials and products and requisition of raw materials.
• Ensure raw materials are always on hand and follow up timeously on order deliveries.
• Ensure minimum levels of raw materials and product are maintained.
• Ensure production of quality products
• Ensuring production of quality feed and other products produced on site including soya cake, full fat, and crude oil.
• Participate in the designing, review and ensuring effective implementation of the plant procedures, processes, and controls.
Staff Management
• Assist in handling of employee grievances and complaints, through mediation and forwarding staff issues to the Head of Department, HR or the respective authorities.
• Provide leadership & training to plant staff to develop individual employee skills hence leading to improved staff and plant performance and staff competencies.
• Monitoring staff performance, through review of individual performance appraisals and establishing of appropriate actions or mechanisms aimed at improving employee performance.
• Ensuring employee compliance with the set health and safety standards
• Maintain discipline of site staff.
Reporting
• Participate in preparation of reports in relation to the plant activities and dissemination thereof.
• Any other duties as assignned by line manager.
• Operations objectives are achieved as per the work plan.
• Performance and production are in line with set standards and quality.
• All feed mill sections are performing as per the set plan and standards.
• Feed mill equipment / machines are always in good mechanical condition.
• Evidence of minimized labor, overtime, and repair expense costs
• Clean working environment
• Stock is effectively monitored, stored and managed.
• No stock outs of finished products or raw materials.
• Products are of good quality as per BPIL quality guidelines.
• Up-dated plant procedures and controls.
• Timely conflict resolution
• Staff capacity developed.
• Annual performance appraisal of each staff
• Health and safety standards are well disseminated and understood.
• Staff are disciplined.
• Reports on plant activities are regularly shared and discussed with the line manager and any required action taken.

Education & Training
• Degree in Engineering, Production or any related field.
• Certificate in Feed milling technology an added advantage.

Skills & Experience
• Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in similar roles in a busy production setting
• Ability to oversee and plan production on a weekly and monthly basis.
• Ability to understand and enforce SOPs.
• Knowledge of GMPs and GHPs
• Coordination and monitoring skills
• Ability to train and mentor new staff on the process control and management.
• Knowledge of Feed Mill technology
• Communication and interpersonal skills
• Supervision skills
• Record keeping skills.
• Planning and problem-solving skills.
• Reporting and organizational skills
• Computer skills
