General Summary
Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is a not-for-profit organization, owned by Makerere University, dedicated to strengthening health systems in Africa with a focus on infectious diseases through research and capacity building. Over the last six years, IDI has been running the Fleming Fund project to support government efforts in setting up systems for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance. The project is seeking to fill the position of Data Analyst with the qualifications outlined below.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Collection Support: Assist in data collection from surveillance sites, including Data Quality Assessments.
- Standardization: Support the standardization of WHONET usage at surveillance sites, National Coordination Centers (NCCs), and the One Health Coordinating Office.
- Data Requests Management: Act as the main point of contact for all data requests, ensuring user data needs are met.
- IT Coordination: Handle all data and information technology-related issues.
- Reporting: Collaborate with the team to prepare timely reports according to the project work plan and Monitoring and Evaluation plan.
- Data Security: Perform routine data backups and ensure data security.
- Data Analysis: Conduct analysis and interpretation of data as required, especially for quarterly project reporting and engagement with policy stakeholders.
- Data Integration: Support the integration of human, animal, water, and environment sector data through DISIS for visualization on the One Health platform.
- Documentation: Aid in the development of knowledge management products.
Person Specification
Required:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Quantitative Economics, IT, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 3 years of progressive experience in data management and systems development.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of current information technologies and competence in electronic database packages (e.g., Ms. Access, SQL).
- Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analysis packages such as MS Excel, R, STATA, WHONET.
- AMR/AMU/C Experience: Experience in managing Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Antimicrobial Use/Consumption (AMU/C) data.
- Detail-Oriented: High attention to detail, especially regarding data accuracy.
- Team Skills: Strong team player with good management and communication skills.
- Ministry Knowledge: Understanding of Ministry of Health/Fleming Fund reporting requirements and tools.
