About Organisation:
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program envisions a transformative network of young people and institutions driving inclusive and equitable socio-economic change in Africa. Since launching in 2012, the Program has supported nearly 45,000 young people in Africa to pursue secondary or tertiary education. The second phase of the Program will offer 1000 Scholarships to young African women and men, admitted to both the Undergraduate and Graduate Academic Programmes at Makerere University Main Campus. The Program aims to deepen inclusive University education and empower the Youth to transform into leaders who will make meaningful contributions to national and regional development.
Job Summary: The Senior Communications Officer shall ensure inclusive and effective communication strategies in collaboration with the Makerere University Public Relations office, and undertake media monitoring to uphold the safety and reputation of the University and the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement communication strategies that emphasize the University’s commitment to safeguarding and inclusion
- Create and disseminate educational materials and resources to raise awareness about safeguarding and Inclusion policies.
- Monitor and analyze media coverage related to Makerere University, its programs, and relevant industry trends.
- Develop and implement communication strategies for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars’ recruitment processes
- Maintain detailed records of crisis communication and management
- Spearhead the review of policies and guidelines relating to risk and crisis management
- Monitor, identify and report any safeguarding concerns that may arise during the Program implementation
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Master’s degree in a Humanities discipline including Journalism and Communication, public Administration, Marketing, or any other related fields from a recognized University
- A Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field is necessary for this role.
- A proven experience working as a Crisis Communication Officer or in a similar position.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are necessary, as well as strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with diverse stakeholder groups.
- Proficiency in using communication tools and platforms is necessary, along with familiarity with social media trends and platforms.
- Experience in crisis management and media relations, it would be advantageous
- At least five years of experience in a communication-related engagements
